Kaizer Chiefs crash and burn at FNB Stadium

Posted on September 17, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs lost of the first time in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season when they were well beaten by Sekhukhune United at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday.

Sekhukhune United won 3-1 after the score was deadlocked at 1-1 at half-time.

Early setback

Amakhosi suffered an early setback when Tsepo Matsimbi stormed down the right and crossed for Bradley Grobler to finish at the far post after just five minutes.

However, Kaizer Chiefs replied eight minutes later as Flavio da Silva pounced on a loose ball in the box following a goal-mouth scramble and finished from close-range, making it two goals in two games.

Grobler scored his second in the 50th minute, before Thabang Monare added a third in the 56th minute.

Sekhukhune United held on to wrap up a well deserved win that saw them move back to the top of the standings.

Kaizer Chiefs remained in third place.

Meanwhile, in other matches played on Tuesday night, Chippa United beat Orbit College 2-1, while Durban City beat Siwelele 2-0.

Kaizer Chiefs will next be in action in the CAF Confederations Cup first preliminary round first leg match against Angolan side Kabuscorp on Saturday, 20 September at 17:00 (SA time).
