Kaizer Chiefs coach breaks silence on Nabi’s exit

Posted on October 21, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has refused to spill the beans on Nasreddine Nabi’s unexpected exit at Naturena.

Kaze worked as Nabi’s assistant a few months after the Tunisian mentor joined Amakhosi. The two had previously worked for several years at Young Africans before reuniting at Chiefs.

Last month, the Soweto giants announced Nabi’s departure from the club after just 14 months in charge. Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef have since taken over as co-coaches for the remainder of the season.

Chiefs coach refuses to give details on Nabi

Nabi’s departure has raised a lot of speculation over the past few weeks. Before the start of the Betway Premiership, the Tunisian coach returned home to be with his wife, who was involved in a serious accident.

During the coach’s absence, Chiefs won three consecutive matches under Ben Youssef and Kazi however, upon Nabi’s return, the team started losing points. A 3-1 loss to Sekhukhune was Nabi’s last match in charge of Amakhosi.

“I worked with Nabi for three seasons and I wish him well, I told him that,” Kaze told the media.

“I hope he is going to find something that suits him in the near future.”

The former Yanga coach refused to give more details on why Nabi left the club. Instead, Kaze defended his striker, Ashley du Preez, following their 0-0 draw with AS Simba during the first leg of the CAF Confederations Cup.

The former Stellenbosch FC striker failed to score from an open net during the match.

“With Ashley, I won’t say it is normal, but it happens in football. He (Du Preez) was devastated after the game, that he missed a chance to seal the game in the last minute,” said the Kaizer Chiefs coach.

“But as coaches, as the club and as his teammates we are here to support him when the bad moments are here.”

Do you think Nabi was betrayed?
