Kaizer Chiefs at a crossroads as TOP 8 battle looms

Posted on December 5, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs could find themselves fighting for the top eight in the second half of the season.

After winning their opening three matches, Amakhosi appeared to be the team to beat this season but poor form saw them slip to fifth in the Betway Premiership.

At one point, Chiefs were nine points clear of their rivals Orlando Pirates, but 12 rounds later, Amakhosi trail the Buccaneers by five points.

A season which promised much for Khosi fans could end up like their previous seasons. Amakhosi have failed to finish in the top 8 for two consecutive seasons but are likely to finish in the top half of the table if they maintain their form.

What should Kaizer Chiefs prioritise this season?

Amakhosi have the Betway Premiership, CAF Confederation Cup and Nedbank Cup to fight for. Realistically, they are unlikely to go past the group stages of CAF but they still have a slim chance of winning the league.

With just 12 rounds gone, Chiefs are only five points behind Pirates. A good run of form could see them close the gap, but failure to win could see them slip further on the log.

Under Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, Kaizer Chiefs have looked positive at times but a lack of consistency has been their downfall. They have a big squad to compete in Africa and locally, but unlike their rivals, the squad lacks quality players to compete and win trophies.

The Soweto giants won the Nedbank Cup last season and were looking to build on that and win more silverware.

With previous coach Nasreddine Nabi gone and 11 players signed, it looks as if Kaizer Chiefs are once again rebuilding. A top-eight battle looms if the co-coaches fail to get their house in order.

Can Amakhhosi win any trophy this season?
