Kaizer Chiefs are dead and buried in CAF, says Ex-Bafana star

Posted on September 26, 2025

Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Fees Moloi does not give Kaizer Chiefs a chance ahead of their second leg CAF Confederation Cup clash against Kabuscorp.

Amakhosi went down 1-0 to Angolan outfit last weekend and will need to score by at least two clear goals to advance to the second preliminary round. The team looked flat in Angola and created a few chances against a very organised Kabuscorp side.

Speaking to KickOff, Moloi felt Chiefs were unlikely to produce a comeback at home.

Kaizer Chiefs’ CAF CC chances hanging by a thread

“I don’t see Chiefs making a comeback. It’s unlikely they will equalise. They are struggling here at home, so it will be even more challenging for them in continental tournaments,” said the former Santos star.

He said players who were Nabi’s favourites were somewhat demotivated which has affected the team in the past few matches. Chiefs have not played in CAF since 2021 where they lost in the final of the Champions League against Al Ahly.

“Nabi rushed back to Chiefs. He should have stayed away a bit longer and allowed his assistant [Khalil Ben Youssef] to handle a few [more] matches. That way, by the time he returned, there wouldn’t be so much pressure,” Moloi added.

Speaking ahead of the second leg, the ex-Bafana midfielder said Kaizer Chiefs would go into the CAF CC clash to honour the fixture.

“From my perspective, Chiefs will approach this second leg just to honour the fixture, not with any real hope of progressing. Keep in mind, they still have many issues to resolve here at home,” he said.

Kaizer Chiefs host Kabuscorp at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup. Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00.

Can Amakhosi turn things around and win the tie?
