Kaizer Chiefs approach Portuguese coach

Posted on September 20, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs have wasted no time in looking ahead.

Just 72 hours after Nasreddine Nabi drove out of the Naturena gate, the Glamour Boys have already picked up the phone.

The newest target is none other than Pedro Gonçalves, the 48-year-old Portuguese coach who has become one of the hottest properties in African football.

Amakhosi are said to have made contact as the search for stability and silverware takes centre stage. Gonçalves made the continent sit up and take notice when he guided Angola to the AFCON 2023 quarterfinals.

Do you remember what happened in this year’s COSAFA Cup? Gonçalves underlined his pedigree by lifting the COSAFA Cup in South Africa, where his side shocked Bafana Bafana 3-0 in the final.

According to Portuguese outlet Cabine Desportiva, Gonçalves has been approached by Al Ahly and Kaizer Chiefs. “After leaving the Angola national team, Pedro Gonçalves has already received approaches from Al Ahly, from Egypt (which is interested in hiring a Portuguese coach), and from Kaizer Chiefs, from South Africa,” the publication reported.

In the meantime, Amakhosi are in Angola for some CAF Confederation Cup football. The Glamour Boys take on Kabuscorp in the first leg preliminary round in Luanda.
