Junior Khanye and Benedict Tso Vilakazi believe Mamelodi Sundowns will easily win their MTN 8 quarter-final by more than two goals against Richards Bay in Pretoria on Sunday.
The defending champions are looking to go all the way in a cup that has given them problems in the past few seasons while the KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit is also looking to impress in their historic top 8 appearance.
Khanye says it’s unfortunate that despite whatever efforts Bay have been making even in beefing up their squad, there is no way they will score against a high profile Sundowns with motivated superstars.
“Richards Bay are playing against a high profile team who have set a standard,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.
“It’s not often that Sundowns loses their first game. Richards Bay will make it hard and yes I have seen a couple of players with names.
“Papi [Zothwane] tried but I don’t think his team has players that can compete against Sundowns. They will try by all means but they will never win. I see a 3-0, 4-0 win for Sundowns because they are playing against an experienced team that did well in the CAF Champions League and played very well at the Club world Cup.
“They have also just signed [Fawaaz] Basadien. It’s going to be difficult to even stop [Lucas] Ribeiro, especially now he is motivated and [Iqraam] Rayners who did very well.
“It’s going to be very difficult so Sundowns is going to win 3-0, 4-0. They are playing against the national team there is no way they are going to score.”
Tso also believes Sundowns will ease through this game, however he is concerned the players may have grown big heads from competing at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
“It’s the attitude that I’m worried about, the attitude of Sundowns players as they come from the Club world Cup,” said Tso.
“Coming to play against Richards Bay, I don’t know where their state of mind is because sometimes players tend to undermine certain teams and say this is a small team.
“Or maybe the coach will decide and say they know my line-up so I’m going to change try other players and then get the shock of your life. But Sundowns should win this, it should be 3-0. It should be an easy game for Sundowns.”
