Jose’s promise will be music to Orlando Pirates fans’ ears

Posted on November 18, 2025

Former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is back in the country.

The Spanish coach touched down in South Africa as part of a Carling marketing initiative ahead of the Knockout final.

His former side are due to face Marumo Gallants on 06 December in this season’s final.

Jose Riveiro guarantees his loyalty to Orlando Pirates

Riveiro left Orlando Pirates rather abruptly at the end of last season.

The Spanish tactician sealed a move to Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Unfortunately for the Spanish coach, his time in Egypt was short-lived. He lasted just two months at the club before being axed.

Following his arrival back in South Africa, many fans are wondering whether a new coaching gig is in the pipeline or not.

The Uefa Pro coaching Licence holder however has assured Orlando Pirates fans that his loyalty will always remain with the Buccaneers.

Speaking to senior football journalist Mthokozisi Dube, Riveiro confirmed that he will ‘never coach another team in South Africa‘.

Riveiro’s PSL record

The 50-year-old coach took charge of 131 games for Orlando Pirates. According to Transfermarkt, he won 82 of those.

He drew 22 more while losing just 27 matches at the Buccaneers. The Spanish tactician lifted five trophies in three years at the club.

His Orlando Pirates side also finished as runners-up in the league on three occasions. Mamelodi Sundowns edged them to the league title each season.
