‘Jose Riveiro’s exit from Orlando Pirates was too soon’ – Ex-Bucs star

Former Orlando Pirates striker James Mothibi has slammed former Bucs coach Jose Riveiro following his exit last season.

Riveiro left the Buccaneers after three successful seasons which he won five major trophies and reached the CAF Champions League semi-final. Following his departure, it was announced that he had left the Soweto giants for Al Ahly.

In Egypt, the Spaniard only lasted seven games before he was given the boot. Mothibi feels Jose Riveiro’s move from Orlando Pirates to Al Ahly was rushed.

“You know, if, for whatever reason, you decide to leave, and then suddenly resurface elsewhere, like coach Jose did… Remember that when he resigned, it wasn’t announced that he was going to Al Ahly. We were told his family needed him at home,” he Kick Off.

“But then he went to Al Ahly, which I personally believe was a hasty decision on his part, considering he was still in the process of building his coaching career.”

Jose Riveiro won five trophies at Orlando Pirates

Riveiro has since been replaced with Abdeslam Ouaddou, who has already taken the team to another final.

“Pirates have just replaced him with a new coach, and knowing the club, they always focus on what they have. Currently, they have coach Ouaddou, and both the players and the club seem to hold him in high regard.

“They have been patient with him. Pirates are in fifth place on the log, and we are in for an exciting season,” Mothibi added.

Having succeeded with Orlando Pirates, Jose Riveiro was unable to take Al Ahly to the next round of the FIFA Club World Cup and a poor start to the season was the last straw. It remains to be seen if he will return to the PSL.

Will Riveiro join Sundowns?
