Jose Riveiro to replace Miguel Cardoso at Sundowns?

Former Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro could be a candidate to coach Mamelodi Sundowns should Miguel Cardoso get the chop.

Cardoso has been under extreme pressure this season after his side was eliminated from the MTN8 in the semi-final stages. The pressure has been building ever since the Brazilians were eliminated from the FIFA Club World Cup in the first round.

If Sundowns were to release their coach, reports indicate that Riveiro could be an option. The former Pirates boss has not had the best start at Al Ahly. Former Egypt goalkeeper Ahmed Shobier feels the Spanish coach should be defended despite his poor start to his tenure

“I see that Riveiro has been surrendered over a little to the fans,” he said as quoted by Nabd.com.

Jose Riveiro to Sundowns could happen

“The people who are supposed to defend him are not defending him. He needs to be defended, people need to speak well of him, and he needs support, just as Al Ahly supported [Rene] Weiler, Mosimane, and [Marcel Koller] at times.

“But what I see with Riveiro is that he was handed over too early,” Shobier concluded.

During his time at Pirates, Jose Riveiro defeated Mamelodi Sundowns in two cup finals. The Spaniard, however, did struggle against Masandawana in the league and only defeated them once, which was earlier this year.

It remains to be seen if Cardoso will be the coach in the coming matches after his side dropped points against Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Should Cardoso stay at Downs or be replaced midseason?
