South African defender Wayde Jooste has welcomed the unknown tag for Bafana Bafana‘s CHAN squad which he reckons can work in the team’s favour.
Bafana B headed to the CHAN tournament with mostly unattached locally based players as the showpiece does not fall under the FIFA calendar.
Bafana open their tournament against Algeria in Group C on Friday in Kampala with the former Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu man enjoying the unknown tag at the tournament.
“That’s a very good thing that we are unknown quantity, because they won’t know what to expect from us,” Jooste told Safa.net.
“So, yeah, it’s a very good thing that they don’t really know much about us. It’ll count in our favour, and it will be advantage for us going into the group stages. I think it’s [Algeria] like every other team that’s here in the tournament; they deserve to be here. They are a very good team. They’re a very direct team.”
“But we’ve done our analysis luckily, like you said we were able to watch one of their games. So, we know more or less what to expect from them going into Friday’s game.”
The Molefi Ntseki-led side then play Guinea on Monday 11 August, Niger on Thursday and conclude the group stage campaign against one of the hosts Uganda on 18 August.
