Despite leading Orlando Pirates to the 2025 MTN8 trophy with a commanding 3-0 win over Stellenbosch FC at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday, Ouaddou insists that this victory doesn’t suddenly make him a better coach.
The victory marked the Buccaneers’ fourth straight title in the competition. Ouaddou, who took charge in June, steered the team past tough opponents Polokwane City and Mamelodi Sundowns on the way to the final.
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Stellenbosch FC gave Orlando Pirates a run for their money, and the win only came after extra time.
ABELSLAM OUADDOU ON LIFTING THE MTN8
Speaking to the media after the game, the French-Moroccan coach’s humility stood out.
“It doesn’t mean that I am a better coach than two months ago. Maybe I am still a plumber or a carpenter for many people,” the Orlando Pirates mentor told journalists.
“I don’t see myself as better than Steve Barker; I have very big respect for him. He is a very good coach with a very interesting team.
“Of course, we are happy. Like I told you, the club has been winning this trophy for many years. So for people, it’s like its normal. But it’s not normal because you need to perform,” Ouaddou concluded.
