Injury woes hit Kaizer Chiefs as Khanyisa Mayo faces time out

Posted on October 23, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs striker Khanyisa Mayo is likely to miss Amakhosi’s clash against AS Simba this coming weekend.

The 27-year-old forward sustained a hamstring tendon injury against Siwelele FC and was stretchered off the park in the dying minutes.

Mayo came on in the second half but could not make an impact as Chiefs were held to a goalless draw by Siwelele at home on Wednesday evening. Amakhosi are yet to give an official report on the extent of the striker’s injury.

According to reports, he is set to miss the team’s CAF Confederations Cup match against Simba at home.

Mayo joined Kaizer Chiefs on a season-long loan from CR Belouizdad. Since his return to South Africa, the Bafana Bafana had only scored once in four matches so far.

Mayo injured as Chiefs settle for a draw

This week, the ex-Cape Town City star said his goal was to return to the Bafana Bafana set-up. He hasn’t played for the national team since March 2024 and with his recent injury, it looks unlikely that he will make the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations team.

“I would definitely want to get back to the national team, if the team [Chiefs] is doing good then we stand a chance to be in the national team,” Mayo said as per FARPost.

“If the team is doing good and we’re performing then we stand a chance to be in the national team because no player doesn’t want to be in the national team.”

Can Mayo return to Bafana?
