Ighodaro, Silva, and Mayo give Chiefs coaches selection headache

Posted on October 29, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs are still undecided on their number one striker this season.

Amakhosi have signed three strikers this season as they look to compete for top honours. The strikers signed are Etiosa Ighodaro, Flavio Da Silva and Khanyisa Mayo.

All three strikers have managed to open their accounts, which has given coaches headaches on which striker to start with.

Ighodaro offers pace and physicality, Da Silva brings flair and creativity, while Mayo combines sharp finishing with intelligent movement, giving the coaches multiple attacking options as Chiefs chase a long-awaited trophy.

Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze was full of praise for Ighodaro after the striker scored in the CAF Confederations Cup this past weekend.

“I believe that it’s not easy to find that kind of striker; he is a scorer and a player who can help,” he told the media.

Can Chiefs find a perfect combination upfront?

“Sometimes you are struggling, you are defending deep down, and he is a player who, if there is a rebound or we play forward, he can hold the ball and allow the whole team to come up.

“It gives you the energy, and it allows every player to get in his right position going forward,” Kaze added.

Chiefs have struggled for goals this season, but three goals against AS Simba should give them confidence going into the next matches. Kaze feels the Nigerian striker will be helpful, especially when they hit on transition.

“I would say we had missed that a lot because sometimes the ball goes forward and we lose it very quickly, then we have to come back, and it’s like a game of transition. But to have that kind of striker is very helpful,” he concluded.

Kaizer Chiefs are next in action on Friday evening against Durban City in a Betway Premiership clash.

Who should Amakhosi’s first-choice striker?
