Former Kaizer Chiefs Siyabonga Nomvethe has spoken about the time he joined rivals Orlando Pirates and how he wasn’t bothered by those who labelled him a traitor for making the move.
‘Bhele’ played for Chiefs between 1998 and 2001 and then wore the black and white in 2006 upon his return from overseas.
Recently Thabiso Monyane and Paseka Mako have made the switch from Pirates to Amakhosi albeit as free agents.
iDiski Times senior writer Matshelane Mamabolo penned a feature on this in edition 212 where he also spoke to the former South African international and Nomvethe explained that he didn’t mind the name calling because a lot of people were not aware of what was going on behind the scenes at the time.
“Chiefs wanted to sign me on a long-term contract,” Nomvethe told iDiski Times.
“But I was only home for six months and I wanted to go back to Europe. Pirates showed interest, and they agreed on a six-month term, and I joined them.
“I did not bother myself about people who felt I was a traitor by joining Pirates instead of Chiefs because I knew what was happening.”
