Durban City head coach Gavin Hunt has cleared the confusion between his role and what Ernst Middendorp’s responsibilities will be at the club.
The former SuperSport United mentor was named as City’s new coach following their promotion to the Betway Premiership after being crowned Motsepe Foundation Championship winners.
His move to Durban also coincided with Middendorp re-joining his former side though they have since changed their name from Maritzburg United. The German tactician left his head coach role following Cape Town Spurs’ relegation to amateur football.
Speaking to iDiski Times, Hunt clarified that though they will be somehow working together, the former Kaizer Chiefs mentor will not be in his technical team but rather focus on the youth structures as well as player recruitment.
“They told me Ernst would handle youth structures and help identify players,” Hunt said.
“And he’s said, he doesn’t want to get involved with the Saturday results. He would like to do Monday to Friday: set up the youth development, the Diski side, set up the coaching structures, we need a proper training ground, and he will do that for us.
“And he’ll help look for players. He’s got a good network of people he knows, and that’s important.
“We’re both older and experienced, and we will get along just fine.”
