How Kaizer Chiefs can qualify for CAF Confed Cup last 8

Posted on January 27, 2026

Kaizer Chiefs have registered their first win in the CAF Confederation Cup group stages after a hard-fought 1-0 win against Zesco United in Zambia on Sunday.

After a draw and a defeat in their opening two matches, Amakhosi needed a win to keep their chances of reaching the competition’s quarter-finals intact.

An early goal from Pule Mmodi was enough to hand the Soweto giants three points away from home. With the reverse fixture coming this weekend, Kaizer Chiefs should feel confident of getting another win.

In the other match, Egyptians giants Zamalek played to a goalless draw with Al Masry on Sunday evening.

What Kaizer Chiefs needs to reach CAF Confed Cup LAST 8

The two Egyptian giants playing to a draw is good news for Chiefs. Currently, Al Masry top the group with seven points, followed by Zamalek with five points. Amakhosi are on four points, but a win or draw with Zesco can still keep them in the hunt.

Ideally, a win at home against the Zambian side will put them in a great situation where they don’t need to win every match.

Kaizer Chiefs need to win atleast two matches to reach the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals. Wins against Zamalek and Al Masry, plus a draw with Zesco, should be enough for Amakhosi to secure a passage into the last eight.

Defeat to one of the Egyptian sides might see them exit in the group stages of the competition.

Can Chiefs go all the way or will they exit in the group stages?
