Hlungwani Dissects Stellies’ Red Card Vs Chiefs

Former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani hugely applauded Eugene Mdluli for his bravery in awarding Kaizer Chiefs a free-kick in their Betway Premiership season opener against Stellenbosch FC.

Siviwe Nkwali became the first player to receive a red card this season for his foul on Mduduzi Shabalala which saw the resulting free-kick converted by Nkosingiphile Ngcobo to make it 1-0. The match eventually finished 2-0.

Speaking on Soccerzone, “The Principal” dissected the incident where he concluded that the decision taken by the man in the middle was the correct one.

“He [Nkwali] did what we call DOGSO [Denying an Obvious Goal-Scoring Opportunity] by committing an offence which is punishable by a free-kick,” Hlungwani said.

“You can see that when you look at DOGSO element, so therefore all the elements of DOGSO have been successfully completed and a red card will come out.

“So, correct decision by Mdluli to give a red card after all the FIFA considerations for a red card have been completed.

“This is holding an opponent who is running. There was impact.

“So, correct decision by Mdluli to give a red card.”
