Here’s why Kaizer Chiefs’ new co-coach was ‘missing’

Posted on October 24, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs were spotted without one of their new head co-coaches in their most recent Betway Premiership encounter.

Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef are the new duo in charge at Kaizer Chiefs following the departure of Nasreddine Nabi.

However, Youssef was not seen on the sidelines during Amakhosi’s league clash against Siwelele FC at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday.

Sparked speculation

This naturally sparked speculation about his future at Naturena.

However, Kaze has reassured fans that Youssef will be returning soon.

“About Khalil, he attended a personal matter in Morocco. He was not here, but he will be back here on Thursday,” Kaze confirmed.

The Soweto giants recently promoted Kaze and Youssef into the co-coaching roles from their previous positions as assistant coaches.

Kaze and Youssef have been appointed until the end of the current season.

They have a tough task on their hands with Amakhosi not in the best of form of date following four successive games without a win in all competitions.

Fourth place

A look at the latest Betway Premiership log shows that Kaizer Chiefs are in fourth place with 16 points after nine matches.

They trail bitter rivals Orlando Pirates by two points and have played one more fixture.

Kaizer Chiefs will next be in action in their CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round second-leg tie against AS Simba on Sunday, 26 October.

Kick-off is at 15:00.

The first leg ended goalless in the DR Congo.

Top form

Meanwhile, speaking of the future, Bafana Bafana have qualified for FIFA World Cup 2026.

All Kaizer Chiefs players – as well as all other South African footballers – will have to be in top form if they wish to be part of national coach Hugo Broos’s final squad for football’s greatest global showpiece next year.

Currently, these are the THREE Chiefs players who may play for Bafana Bafana in the FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
