Heartbreak For Banyana In COSAFA Final

Banyana Banyana suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Namibia in the final of the 2026 COSAFA Women’s Champions on Sunday afternoon.

Desiree Ellis made three changes to the side that defeated Zimbabwe in the semi-finals. Sibongakonke Mzobe, Bongiwe Thusi and Bonolo Mokoma started ahead of Sibulele Hloweni, Gabriela Salgado and Isabella Ludwig

Nthabiseng Majiya capitalized on a defence lap from the Namibian goalkeeper and defender to tap in from close range for her second goal in back-to-back matches.

The Namibians came out a different side in the second half, and their resilience saw them pulled matters level in the 60th minute.

With the match ending 1-1 in regulation time, the tie headed into extra-time, and it was the Namibians who went in front again making it 2-1.

The Brave Gladiators held on to pull off a major upset by beating South Africa for their maiden COSAFA title.
