Today’s Kaizer Chiefs news looks at a transfer-linked Ghanaian midfielder and a huge threat from Orlando Pirates’ main man.
Kaizer Chiefs keen on Ghanaian midfielder
According to SoccerLaduma, Danish clubs Midtjylland and Randers, as well as Tanzanian side Azam, are monitoring 20-year-old Ghanaian midfielder Hubert Gyau. He’s on the books of Asanta Katoko and has scored four times in 21 league appearances this term. He’s contracted to Prosport International, and CEO agent Mike Makaab says they have not had any official approaches from any club as far as he knows.
Cheifs are still in the title race
Before a somewhat surprising Nedbank Cup Round of 32 exit to Stellenbosch, the Glamour Boys hadn’t conceded since November 29th against Zamalek. They now sit eight points adrift of league leaders Orlando Pirates, but with two games in hand after Pirates’ defeat to Sundowns opened the door ever so slightly. There might be a genuine fight for the title this season, something we haven’t been able to say for quite some time. Chiefs have conceded only six goals in 15 league outings, the best record in the division. Pirates have conceded seven. It’s an eye-catching February schedule for Amakhosi, which could make or break their title aspirations. Below is what’s to come, including that mouthwatering Soweto Derby clash:
- Tue 24 Feb: Chiefs vs Stellenbosch (19:30)
- Sat 28 Feb: Chiefs vs Orlando Pirates (FNB Stadium, 15:30)
Mofokeng is coming right for Orlando Pirates at just the right time
We all know about Relebohile Mofokeng’s tendency to find form in the biggest games and at the most critical junctures of seasons. The Bafana man is doing it again in 2025-26, and the Buccaneers will need the 21-year-old to produce his best until May. Sundowns sare breathing down the Buccaneers’ necks, three points adrift and with a game in hand.
