Fortune Lands New Coaching Role In Europe

Posted on November 9, 2025

Bafana Bafana legend Quinton Fortune has been appointed as one of three assistant coaches for the Serbia men’s national football team.

Fortune once again joins head coach Veljko Paunović’s technical back-room staff having worked alongside the Serb at Spanish club Real Oviedo with the two departing the Spanish LaLiga rookies just last month.

The latest coaching gig for the former Manchester United winger is his fifth job with Paunović. They have also worked together at Reading, Guadalajara and Tigres in Mexico.

Fortune represented the South African national team with distinction between 1996 and 2005 scoring two goals in 53 appearances.

The former Atlético Madrid and RCD Mallorca attacker is among a few South African mentors who have left Mzansi shores to pursue their coaching careers overseas. The likes of Bradley Carnell (Philadelphia Union, USA), Benni McCarthy (Kenya national team), Rulani Mokoena (MC Alger, Algeria) and Fadlu Davids (Raja Athletic Club, Morocco) have all done so.
