Former PSL ref slams offside decision against Kaizer Chiefs

Posted on December 8, 2025

Former Premier Soccer League (PSL) referee Jerome Damon claims Kaizer Chiefs’ goal, which was ruled offside, should have been given.

This comes after the Soweto giants were held to a goalless draw by TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Amakhosi striker Flavio Da Silva found the back of the net in the first half but was deemed to be offside before receiving the ball.

Kaizer Chiefs goal was not offside, says Damon

Speaking to Soccer Laduma, the former referee Jerome Damon said the match officials got it wrong and Silva’s goal should have stood.

“The offside decision was incorrect. The goal should have stood. It was a very tight situation in the field made difficult by the position of attackers and defenders across the it,” Damon told the publication.

He said the offside call was a tough call and without VAR, it was always going to be a difficult call for the match officials.

“TV angles suggest it was offside but without VAR lines ones can never be 100% sure but one has to go with evidence. It was not such an easy decision as pundits and supporters make it out to be.”

After Sunday’s match, many Kaizer Chiefs felt they were denied three points by the offside call. After the Galaxy match, Amakhosi are fourth in the Betway Premiership with 24 points after 13 matches.

With four points behind rivals Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs fans feel the gap could have been closed if Da Silva’s goal was not ruled offside.
