Former Pirates Defender Spotted At New PSL Club

Posted on January 10, 2026

Former Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu defender Abbubaker Mobara has arrived at Chippa United for an assessment in the coming weeks.

This publication established that Chippa are assessing Mobara after he arrived two days ago.

Mobara has been without a team since July 2025 after his contract was not renewed by AmaZulu FC. The 31-year old spent the last six months training on his own to keep himself fit.

At the beginning of the season he was rumored to be joining Chippa United but the move didn’t materialise then. But that could happen now if he impresses head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi who coached him at AmaZulu during his time at Usuthu.

The Chili Boys already signed Sinoxolo Kwayiba from Orlando Pirates just six months after leaving the side. His return brings hope that the team can survive.

Currently Chippa are sitting at the bottom of the table with just nine points after 15 games. They have won one league game in the last 20 matches, and desperately need points to survive the chop.
