Owen da Gama wants to coach Kaizer Chiefs
Former Orlando Pirates coach Owen da Gama has openly registered his interest in coaching Kaizer Chiefs.
Da Gama believes he has what it takes to return the club back to the summit of South African football. Speaking to PhalaPhala FM here’s what he had to say below.
“It’s Kaizer Chiefs. If I could get Chiefs just for one season, just one season,” Da Gama said.
“Chiefs is the team on my bucket list, only if it’s possible. If I get Chiefs, I can do it. I don’t want to talk for myself, but they are on my bucket list.”
Da Gama’s journey in coaching
The 64-year-old mentor has bags of PSL experience. He originally made a name for himself at Silver Stars back in the early 2000s.
He then moved to Kaizer Chiefs’ rivals Orlando Pirates in 2007.
Da Gama later enjoyed solid spells at the likes of Bloemfontein Celtic, Platinum Stars, Highlands Park and TS Galaxy.
He enjoyed the role of assistant coach at Bafana Bafana alongside Shakes Mashaba. He also took charge of Bafana Bafana on an interim basis.
And not to forget, his impressive spell with the national Under-23 side back in 2014 to 2016.
