Former Chelsea star moves from Chiefs to Sundowns match

Posted on January 20, 2026

The former Chelsea and Ivory Coast forward remains in the country. After being seen at Kaizer Chiefs earlier, has now been spotted in Tshwane in the company of Mamelodi Sundowns.

Kalou was present at Loftus Versfeld on Tuesday night. He watched Sundowns ’ 2-0 Betway Premiership win over Orbit College while seated among the club’s senior officials.

SALOMON KALOU IN MZANSI SINCE NOVEMBER 2024

His appearance comes a few months after he visited Naturena in November 2024. Kaizer Chiefs had shared images of the AFCON, Premier League and UEFA Champions League winner at the Village.

The visit was warmly received by supporters and was presented as a courtesy stop during his time in the country.

During that visit, Kalou spoke about his admiration for Kaizer Chiefs, revealing that both he and his brother, Bonaventure Kalou, grew up inspired by Amakhosi legend Doctor Khumalo.

At the time, the club said: “Kaizer Chiefs welcomed AFCON, Premier League and UCL winner with Chelsea and Amakhosi fan Salomon Kalou, who spoke of his admiration for the club and the way he and his brother Bonaventure Kalou were motivated by Amakhosi legend Doctor Khumalo to reach the heights they did.”

For now, there has been no official indication of the purpose behind Kalou’s continued stay in South Africa. However, his recent appearance alongside Sundowns officials has ensured his visit remains of interest within local football circles.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns now turn their attention to the CAF Champions League, with the Betway Premiership champions set for a tough trip north to face Sudanese giants Al-Hilal.

The clash is scheduled for Friday night at 20:00 and will be Sundowns’ third group-stage outing, following a 3-1 victory over DR Congo’s Saint-Eloi Lupopo and a goalless draw away to Rulani Mokwena’s MC Alger.
