Thapelo Maseko’s hunger for playing minutes may be over soon.
The 22-year-old winger has reportedly sealed a move to Europe to play for AEL Limassol in Cyprus on loan.
THAPELO MASEKO LEAVING MAMELODI SUNDOWNS
According to SABC Sport, the Sebokeng-born attacker is preparing his exit after Kabo Yellow and Limassol reached a verbal agreement.
“SABC Sport can confirm that Mamelodi Sundowns have reached a verbal agreement with Cypriot club AEL Limassol for the loan signing of winger Thapelo Maseko until the end of the season,” the outlet reported.
Interestingly, Cyprus is not new territory for South African attackers. AEL Limassol already boast Bafana Bafana winger Luther Singh, while Mihlali Mayambela turns out for Aris Limassol.
Maseko left the Sundowns camp in Polokwane on Saturday as final preparations for the loan move were completed.
The SuperSport United academy graduate shot to superstardom in 2023. He was named the Best Player and Top Goalscorer of the inaugural African Football League (AFL).
Despite his tender age, Maseko is already a Bafana Bafana international. He was part of South Africa’s squad that won a bronze medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in early 2024.
The speedy winger has so far marked 79 appearances across all competitions for his two professional clubs. He has found the net seven times, while making three assists.
At Sundowns, Maseko has played 45 matches, scoring three goals and providing one assist. Prior to this, his career at SuperSport United included 34 appearances, four goals and two assists.
