Foreigner returns to Orlando Pirates after loan move cut short

Posted on February 16, 2026

Orlando Pirates midfielder Abdoulaye S Mariko has returned to the club following his loan move to Chippa United.

The Malian midfielder joined the club from Djoliba AC at the beginning of the season.

Mariko was then loaned out to Chippa United shortly after joining the club.

His fellow countryman Abdoulaye Fousseyni Mariko (yes they share the same name) also joined the Buccaneers from Djoliba at the beginning of the campaign but he remained at the Bucs.

Mariko returns to Orlando Pirates

Following an early end to his loan move, Mariko was spotted back at Orlando Pirates ahead of this week’s clash against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mariko made two appearances for Chippa United with one coming against his parent team the Buccaneers.

Now, he’ll be looking to impress Abdeslam Ouaddou and feature for the Bucs.

His namesake, Abdoulaye F Mariko has already made eight appearances for Orlando Pirates this season.

Bucs gear up for six pointer

South Africa will come to a standstill on Wednesday evening when they face Mamelodi Sundowns at the FNB Stadium.

The Buccaneers currently have a six point lead over Sundowns, who are their closest challengers. They have however played one game more.

A victory at the FNB Stadium will push Orlando Pirates nine points clear with 13 games to go.
