Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt was delighted after getting yet another win against Kaizer Chiefs.

The Cape Winelands side defeated Amakhosi twice in one month. Having dumped them out of the Nedbank Cup, Stellies produced another masterpiece to earn three points at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday.

Speaking to after the game, Hunt admitted that his side should have gone 3-0 down in the first half. He said the halftime talk inspired his boys as they came from a goal behind to win 2-1.

Hunt haunts Chiefs

“I thought we had a magnificent second half for a team that’s played so much and been all over the show. So, all in all, it helps us because of our situation to get us away from the bottom of the league,” Hunt said.

Stellies’ win over Amakhosi have seen them jump to 11th on the log, but the Cape Town-born coach bemoans the hectic schedule his team is facing.

“I don’t think Africa has helped us as a club at the moment this year. That’s where we struggle, really, where we had to go and what we had to do. We’ll try to move on to another game on Friday, believe it or not.”

Hunt was proud of his players after a big win against Chiefs.

“We haven’t trained for a month. We haven’t done any training. So, it’s pretty much fixing up teams, patching up and then going again. So, I’m proud of the players, but certainly the first half wasn’t nowhere near what it requires at this level. But I could see the effects coming to the game; we were really down. But you know, sometimes football gods work in strange ways,” he said.

Do you think Gavin Hunt should have been given more time at Naturena?
