Figo Sets Challenge To Makgalwa

Posted on August 1, 2025

Sekhukhune United captain Linda Mntambo says Keletso Makgalwa has been a source of pride for the club but he can’t rest on his laurels for the upcoming season.

Makgalwa has long been touted as a future star of South African football but his career looked to be spiralling into obscurity after several loans from away from Mamelodi Sundowns, before dropping down to the second-tier with Upington City.

But he emerged as one of the leading performers in the second tier and return to the Premiership with Sekhukhune, where he scored six goals with 11 assists in 32 games, and earned him nominations for Premier Soccer League Footballer of the Season and Player’s Player of the Season – both awards which were won by Lucas Ribeiro Costa.

“He knows consistency is the name of every game, and with him, he still needs to put in the work, someone once said success and failure are both written on ice, and tomorrow the sun will shine,” Mntambo said.

“So he knows he cannot rest of his laurels, what he’s done before, this is a new season, he needs to take the stats he got from last season and try and better them, he needs to have competition with himself before he can start competing with the same players in his position.

“We’re here to help each other, football is a team sport, not an individual sport, that’s why with all the nominations he got, we’re also happy with the contribution we’ve put in, he knows he wouldn’t have got them on his own, together, collectively as a club, we should be proud how far we’ve gone, but make sure this season, we win honours.”

Sekhukhune open their season against one of Makgalwa’s former club’s in the form of TS Galaxy in the MTN8 tomorrow at the Peter Mokaba Stadium (18h00).
