Fancying Nedbank Cup Chances? Casric Coach Responds
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Casric Stars coach Bucs Mthombeni has responded to whether he fancies his chances of winning the Nedbank Cup after eliminating two Betway Premiership clubs.

In the Round of 16, the Motsepe Foundation Championship side, against all odds, knocked out Orlando Pirates on penalties.

They were then drawn against AmaZulu FC in the quarter-final and beat them 2–1 on Saturday afternoon. In both of these matches, Casric were playing away from home.

Mthombeni said winning the Nedbank Cup was not something he had even been thinking about.

However, he stated that they always want to give their all, no matter who they face in the competition.

“Remember now, we’re at the semis now, we need to go back, wait for the draw and start planning,” said Mthombeni.

“But it was actually not something I was thinking. But I always tell the players to make sure whichever opponents were playing, they must give their all.”

He added that he will urge his players not to celebrate too much, but to remain humble and focus on the bigger goal, which is the league.

Mthombeni made it clear that their priority is promotion to the Betway Premiership rather than winning the Nedbank Cup.

“What I’m emphasising to the boys is to not celebrate and forget that football is a long journey,” he added.

“We must just go back and make sure that we focus and then we take one game at a time.

“We have a good management that will talk to these boys that this is a past. And remember, history will aways be there.

“But as a person, you need to also grow. We’re going to have a session where we talk to the boys, tell them that this is a past. Let’s look at the next game.

“The cup final is on Wednesday, definitely against AmaTuks. We will tell the boys that a league is bigger than the trophy.”
