Ex-PSL Star Set For Third AFCON At 42

Posted on December 17, 2025

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits attacker Elias Domingues Pelembe is set to feature at his third Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

The 42-year-old will lead Mozambique at the 2025 AFCON where they have been pitted in Group F alongside Ivory Coast, Gabon and Cameroon.

Pelembe featured at his first AFCON in Angola in 2010 and then the 2023 showpiece in Ivory Coast.

The Sundowns legend was voted the 2007/08 PSL Player of the Season and currently plies his trade for UD Songo back in his native Mozambique.

The Black Mambas winger is his country’s most capped player with 119 appearances and the country’s second highest goalscorer with 17 goals behind Manuel ‘Tico-Tico’ Bucuane who’s on 30 strikes.

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove, who turns out for Iraq Stars League outfit Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, and Polokwane City midfielder Manuel Kambala have also made the cut in Chiquinho Conde’s 25-man AFCON squad.
