Zimbabwe have been dealt a heavy blow with news that influential midfielder and vice-captain Marshall Munetsi has suffered a muscle injury.
With the Warriors set to depart for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco in just a few days’ time, the setback could cast a major doubt over his readiness for AFCON.
The former Orlando Pirates man limped off the field just a few minutes after being introduced as an 85th-minute substitute in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ narrow 1-0 defeat in midweek against Nottingham Forest.
Club boss, Rob Edwards, has since revealed that the 29-year-old is currently out injured though they’re yet to know how long he will be sidelined.
“Munetsi has had a scan today [Friday]; we think he has pulled his calf,” Edwards said, as per NewsDay Zimbabwe.
“We think he has pulled his calf, but we do not have the details yet.”
Should he not recover in time for the continental showpiece, his absence will see him miss out on Zimbabwe’ tough Group B clashes against Egypt, Bafana Bafana and Angola.
Munetsi will not feature tonight for Manchester United’s visit at Molineux.
