Ex-Orlando Pirates star makes mammoth R350 million EPL move

Posted on December 16, 2025

Marshall Munetsi was deemed not good enough for Orlando Pirates in 2019 and now he’s a R350 million player. Here are the details.

Munetsi makes dream Premier League switch

28-year-old Zimbabwean midfield maestro Marshall Munetsi has completed a deadline-day €18 million (R349 million) switch to Wolverhampton Wanderers. He was most recently with Reims in France’s Ligue 1. He’s in line to debut away to Blackburn in the FA Cup on Sunday 09 Feb or at Anfield against Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday 16 Feb. It’s a sharp rise for a player who Pirates rejected only six years ago. Munetsi will earn a reported €51k (R1 million) per week with Wolves. According to KickOff, Munetsi was earning as little as R5k a month at one point in South Africa.

“I’m delighted. It’s a dream come true for me. I’ve always wanted to be part of something big, and being part of Wolves is something that is very big for me, and is big for my family,” Munetsi said when speaking to his new club’s website.

“It’s a team that I’ve also seen from afar, and the Premier League is the best place to be, so I’m delighted to join the family, to join the team.

The journey so far

The classy midfield general started his club journey with Blue Rangers FC in Zimbabwe before embarking on a four-year South African adventure which included stints with FC Cape Town, Orlando Pirates and Baroka. In 2019, after two years with Pirates, he got his big European move to Reims on a free transfer. An all-action operator in the middle of the park, Munetsi stands 1.88m tall, scored 21 goals and supplied 14 assists in 159 games for Reims. He also picked up 33 yellow cards in that time. Needless to say, he’ll bring plenty of bite to the Wolves side.
