The Sea Robbers had a chance to pull three points clear at the summit of the league, but their title chances were dented by ex-Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates stars.

Orlando Pirates drop points in the title race

The Sea Robbers drew had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Siwelele on Saturday afternoon, meaning they could only stretch their lead at the summit of the Betway Premiership to only a single point. Ex-Orlando Pirates star Vincent Pule opened the scoring, assisted by former Kaizer Chiefs winger Tebogo Potsane. Tshepang Moremi scored the Sea Robbers equaliser. Next up for Pirates is a trip to TS Galaxy on Sunday, 22 March. Meanwhile, Sundowns’ next clash is on Tuesday, 17 March against Marumo Gallants.

Khanyisa Mayo’s chances of staying at Kaizer Chiefs are slim

Khanyisa Mayo joined Chiefs on a season-long loan from Belouizdad after struggling to make an impact in Algeria. He only scored six goals and made one assist in 41 outings. The 27-year-old’s loan agreement with Chiefs includes an option to buy the player when his loan deal expires in June. The player sounds motivated to prove his worth in South Africa, despite only scoring a single goal for Chiefs. That goal was on debut, all the way back in November. Via Farpost:

“I can’t say [being on loan] is putting me under pressure. The pressure is always there; I was born into a family of pressure,” said Mayo, the son of the legendary Patrick Mayo.

“When you represent an institution like Kaizer Chiefs, expectations are a constant, so I don’t think it’s something I can’t handle. As the season progresses and I get my opportunity, I intend to seize it and prove that I belong here permanently.”
