Ex-coach says Kaizer Chiefs coaches have lost the dressing room

Posted on October 6, 2025

Former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Farouk Khan has lashed out at the club following their exit from the Carling Knockout Cup.

Amakhosi went down on penalties to Stellenbosch FC on Sunday in the first round of the Carling KO. The drama unfolded minutes before the penalty shootout, when two Chiefs players refused to get substituted.

Khan feels Amakhosi coaches are to blame after Fiacre Ntwari blatantly refused to be subbed for Bruce Bvuma during the last minutes of extra-time.

“This tells you that the coach has lost the dressing room. If this happens, with these two players, what does it tell the other players? That they can also do exactly the same because you can’t have a situation where you treat some players one way, and the others in another way,” the former Chiefs coach said on Soccer Beat.

Sibongiseni Mthethwa, who was voted Man of the Match, initially refused to be subbed off for Aden McCarthy. Eventually, he decided to walk off, but Ntwari stood still in the goals.

“Firstly, Ox refused, he didnt want to come off. As a player, irrespective, when the coach makes a substitution, you got to ensure that you walk off that field. Ntwari was like ‘I’m not walking off.’ The coach has to eat humble pie and accept.”

“Once you, as a coach have lost the dressing room, you are destined for disaster moving forward. Especially now that the results are not coming,” Khan added.

Kaizer Chiefs suspended their head coach, Nasreddine Nabi last month. His assistants, Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze have been serving as caretaker coaches in the meantime. The team has struggled for results recently despite a positive start to the season.

Do you think the two assistants have lost the dressing room?
