Ex-Chiefs star on Mofokeng’s form

Posted on August 12, 2025

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye believes Releboheng Mofokeng’s lack of form at Orlando Pirates is due to Mohau Nkota.

Both Nkota and Mofokeng played in the Bucs Diski Challenge team before the latter was promoted to the first team in 2023. Nkota joined a year later and immediately made his mark before leaving for Saudi Arabia last month.

Speaking on iDiski TV, Khanye feels Mofokeng felt hard done by his ex-teammate leaving before him. The 20-year-old has always been poised with a move overseas and has gone on trials in Europe in 2023.

“I think the fact that Nkota arrived and left [overseas] after his first season has affected him,” the ex-Chiefs star told iDiski TV.

“I’m a human; I’m black. I know other people will say, ‘the player is getting paid very well’, but for me I know I’ve been a footballer before, it has affected the boy. They can say whatever they want.

“Whoever say what, it’s not easy for him to accept that [Nkota is overseas].

Mofokeng not coping without Nkota?

“This boy was the face of Orlando Pirates as a youngster figure, so for another boy to arrive who was maybe second best to him, and then leave, it has affected him psychologically.

“He’s not himself,” Khanye added.

Both Nkota and Mofokeng contributed 20-plus goals across all competitions for Orlando Pirates last season under Jose Riveiro.

In this campaign, Rele has not clicked under the new coach, Abdeslam Ouaddou, in the two matches he played so far this season.

Can Rele discover his form or must he force a move overseas?
