Eighth player leaves Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs have finally said goodbye to defender Bongani Sam, clarifying a situation that had puzzled the Amakhosi faithful for months.

Sam’s signing in August 2024 was met with cautious optimism. Arriving from Orlando Pirates, he was expected to compete for the left-back role amid the club’s defensive rebuild.

However, his time at Kaizer Chiefs quickly drifted into uncertainty. Aside from early training camp photos and pre-season mention, the Gqeberha-born defender did not appear in any official matches.

While Sam suffered a pre-season injury during the club’s camp in Turkey, the 26-year-old recovered during the season. Still, he remained on the fringes and never made a single competitive appearance. Kaizer Chiefs reportedly attempted to loan him out during the January window, with Magesi FC close to sealing a deal.

“Chiefs Release Sam,” the club said on social media. “After just one season, Kaizer Chiefs have amicably agreed to part ways with defender Bongani Sam.

“The Gqeberha native joined the team from Orlando Pirates in July 2024. Wishing Bongani all the best,” the note ended.
