Duba – What Mayo Told Me

Posted on September 30, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs striker Wandile Duba has revealed the recent conversation he had with his new teammate, Khanyisa Mayo.

The left-footed forward, Mayo joined Amakhosi in the recent past transfer window on a season-long loan from the Algerian club, CR Belouizdad.

He will be competing with Duba, Etiosa Ighodaro, Tashreeq Morris, and Flávio Silva for the number nine role. He has already opened his scoring account, having netted a goal on his debut against Marumo Gallants in Chiefs’ last league clash.

Duba says Mayo told him they would work well together, suggesting they commit to extra practice, staying behind after every session to hone their shooting skills as strikers.

“We were playing against [Kabuscorp] in CAF [Confederation Cup] game, when we came back for the training session, Mayo said, look me and you are going to work well together, even if we stay behind after training to just hit the net, the two of us,” said Duba.

“So, even with the guys [new strikers] that are there now, with their experience, I think they will really help me to get back to what I do best.”

With Amakhosi set to play AmaZulu in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday, Duba says the team is wary of the Usuthu threat as they aim to bounce back from their recent loss to TS Galaxy.

“Every team that comes to play Kaizer Chiefs gives their best, it won’t be an easy game – despite the fact they lost their previous game,” Duba said referring to their impressive record against Usuthu.

“They will want to come [to FNB Stadium] and win this game, we all know – when teams play Kaizer Chiefs, they [motivated] to win the game.”
