Downs Drop Pts Vs Gallants

Posted on September 17, 2025

Mamelodi Sundowns were held to 1-1 draw by Marumo Gallants and missed an opportunity to go top of the Betway Premiership.

Sundowns started the game on the front foot, Gallants observed the pressure and managed to hold for their dear life’s.

The defending Betway Premiership broke the deadlock in the 28th minute after Marcelo Allende played a cross which found Iqraam Rayners unmarked and he made no mistake with his header to put Sundowns ahead 1-0.

But just seven minutes later, Gallants equalised after Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo’s shot went through Ronwen Williams legs to make it 1-1.

In the 42nd minute Sundowns had an opportunity to take the lead again after Teboho Mokoena was brought down just outside the box, he dusted himself and took the free-kick but it went straight to Washington Arubi.

The second half kicked off with both sides looking to get that important goal, Sundowns had more opportunities but Arubi remained firm and Gallants stayed solid in defense.

Miguel Cardoso made few changes with Tashreeq Matthews and Lebo Mothiba coming on with hope of getting that important goal that would seal maximum points but Masandawana were too toothless overall.

Gallants collected their second draw of the season, while it was already the third draw for Sundowns.
