Doctor – What I Told Nkota

Posted on December 4, 2025

Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo has shared the advice he gave to young national team star Mohau Nkota regarding his career abroad.

Nkota abruptly left the Buccaneers during the pre-season, joining Al-Ettifaq, where he’s quickly established himself as a regular.

He has also grown into one of Hugo Broos’ most trusted players and is included in the squad set to compete at the upcoming AFCON in Morocco.

Khumalo says he’s been impressed by Nkota’s maturity on the field and praised the goal the youngster scored in Bafana’s friendly against Zambia. He then opened up on a conversation between the two where Nkota told him playing in Saudi Arabia has truly pushed him to grow.

He went on to say that he advised the former Pirates winger not to return to South Africa too soon, but instead to pursue opportunities in Europe and build a career there.

“What I said to Nkota, I was like wow what a goal boy, your game has matured,” said Khumalo during the interview with Robert Marawa on MSW.

“He was like also, ‘Thank you legend, even Saudi is challenging me’. I said to him I don’t care whether it’s getting tougher and tougher, please be strong, don’t come back home.

“Try perhaps to take your game to Europe and make a living out of it. So, that’s what I said to him.”
