Doc & Khune On Chiefs’ Penalty

Kaizer Chiefs legends-turned-analysts Doctor Khumalo and Itumeleng Khune have shared their views on the contentious penalty Amakhosi received against Al-Masry on Sunday.

The Glamour beat the Egyptian giants 2-1 thanks to goals from Flavio Da Silva and Aden McCarthy, with the first coming from a penalty spot.

The referee pointed to the spot after spotting a hand ball inside the box to stop a powerful shot from Glody Lilepo – with the decision causing the Egyptian players to complain and halt play for about seven minutes.

But Khumalo felt the match official made the right call.

“It’s interpreted in different ways,” he said on SABC1.

“Because there you can say he’s reaching out. He’s reaching out, you can see but trying to hide the hand.

“He’s leaving towards the ball, so it’s re-directing the ball because it was going straight. So it looks intentional.”

Former Amakhosi stopper Khune echoed the sentiment of Khumalo.

“I was sure that it was a penalty,” he added.

“I had no doubt. Like coach Doc says, he was leaning towards the ball, so that means he’s blocking a promising shot at goal.”

Chiefs moved to the top of Group C but still need a point at Zamalek to secure their spot in the knockout stages of the competition.
