Mamelodi Sundowns defender Keanu Cupido says Lucas Ribeiro Costa will be sorely missed, amidst strong links with an exit in the current transfer window.
Brazilian Serie A side Fluminense have made an approach to Sundowns, while Qatar SC have also engaged in talks in what could be a money-spinning move for the Brazilian that would be too good to ignore, despite the lure of playing in his homeland.
Sources have confirmed that Costa is open either move, while Sundowns are also ready to offer him a new contract, should no move officially materialise before the end of the current window.
While it appears he’s more in than out, as this stage, Cupido stated the Brazilian, who won with the Premier Soccer League Footballer of the Season, Player’s Player of the Season, Golden Boot, and Goal of the Season – would be wished well by everyone.
“Lucas is a great player, each and everyone would miss a player like that, even if you go into your work space, if someone leaves, you will feel it,” Cupido said about Ribeiro’s potential exit.
“But for us as Mamelodi Sundowns, if it does happen for him, we’d wish him well and at Sundowns, there’s a lot of quality players that can fill up where he left off, like youngsters that can grow into being a player like Lucas…”
Sundowns open their 2025/26 season on Sunday against Richards Bay in the MTN8 at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium (18h00).
