Confirmed Sundowns starting 11 vs MC Alger

Posted on February 14, 2026

Mamelodi Sundowns welcome Rulani Mokwena’s side to Loftus Versfeld on Saturday at 15:00 in what promises to be a decisive encounter.

Kabo Yellow sit third in the group, just two points behind the leaders, with this final fixture determining whether they advance to the quarterfinals.

It will be the second meeting between the two teams this campaign, following an entertaining goalless draw in Algiers.

CHASING AN ELUSIVE SECOND STAR

Since lifting the trophy in 2015/16 after beating Zamalek 3-1 on aggregate, Sundowns have endured a series of near misses in the CAF Champions League.

They exited in the quarterfinals to Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in 2016/17 before suffering a group-stage elimination in 2017/18.

A semifinal defeat to Wydad followed in 2018/19, while back-to-back quarterfinal exits to Al Ahly came in 2019/20 and 2020/21.

Angola’s Petro de Luanda knocked them out in the quarterfinals in 2021/22, before another semifinal heartbreak against Wydad in 2022/23.

In 2023/24, they fell in the semifinals to Tunisia’s Esperance under then-coach Miguel Cardoso, and most recently, in 2024/25, they finished as runners-up after losing in the final to Pyramids FC of Egypt.
