Concrete proof that Orlando Pirates boast the best squad in SA

Posted on November 26, 2025

Orlando Pirates flexed their muscles and considerable depth again as they claimed a routine win over bottom club Chippa.

A 2-0 success puts the Sea Robbers joint-top of the Betway Premiership with a game in hand.

With such strength in depth, now feels like the time for them to end their 13-year title drought.

Orlando Pirates rotate smartly against Chippa

A workmanlike 2-0 win over Chippa means that the Buccaneers move joint-top of the Betway Premiership. The goals came from substitutes Evidence Makgopa and Oswin Appollis, while another substitute, Kabelo Dlamini, claimed an assist. Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side can go top by themselves if they avoid defeat away to Durban City on Saturday, 29 November. Makgopa and Appollis are regular starters, so they should be restored to the side against City, while the ever-versatile Dlamini has again put his hand up for selection. Deon Hotto, now 35, also claimed an assist from left-back. Not many clubs in South Africa can point to such depth in their squads.

Orlando Pirates sensation Mbokazi to bag big money in the MLS

Today’s Orlando Pirates news wrap looks at the imminent sale of Mbekezeli Mbokazi to Chicago Fire. The MLS side is ready to spend close to R52 million on the player. The 20-year-old could also end up earning something at the sharp end of R1.3 million a month in basic wages.
