This weekend’s DStv Diski Challenge is set to witness a blockbuster fixture between defending champions Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch while Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns chase their first three points.
A total of 31 goals were scored on matchday one of the DDC as Pirates and Durban City played to a pulsating 3-3 draw while Stellies picked up an emphatic 4-1 hammering over AmaZulu. Chiefs narrowly beat newly promoted Orbit College 2-1 with both teams playing with 10 men while Siwelele held Sundowns to a 1-1 draw.
This weekend, on Saturday, Daine Klate’s Durban City battle TS Galaxy at Chartsworth Stadium and 17 kilometres away, wounded AmaZulu lock horns against Sekhukhune United and then Chippa United have a date with Golden Arrows down in the Eastern Cape.
Sunday is for lovers, but in the DDC, Sunday is for rivals as two-time DDC champions Stellies face current champions Amakhosi after they started the season with a 4-1 win over Usuthuto top the standings. Chiefs struggled against the newly promoted Orbit but as always “champions always find a way” as they managed a 2-1 win.
Bloemfontein has had a lot of football midweek with DDC graduates shining in the Bafana Bafana set-up when they faced Lesotho and Nigeria in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. This Sunday, the City of Roses, Marumo Gallants face Sundowns. Bahlabane Ba Ntwa came from 2-0 down in the opening match to beat Galaxy 3-2.
Princess Magogo Stadium will be the battleground between Richards Bay and Magesi FC while high-flying Polokwane City prepare for a trip to take on Orbit.
