Chiefs’ specialist player returns after 58 days out

Posted on November 21, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs have welcomed back Paseka Mako, who has been named in the 22-man squad heading to Egypt for Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup clash against Al Masry.

Fondly known as “Computer,” the left-back specialist is widely regarded as one of the few full-backs in the league who can attack and defend at the same high level.

It’s a return that comes 58 days after he limped off injured in the 82nd minute during the 1–1 draw against Marumo Gallants on 24 September at the FNB Stadium.

PASEKA MAKO TRAVELS WITH KAIZER CHIEFS TO AL MASRY

For Mako, this return comes after the 31-year-old suffered an early setback at Amakhosi after breaking his arm in pre-season, missing the Netherlands camp, then getting back for five appearances… only to suffer another knock against Gallants. But if there’s one thing Mako has shown over the years, it’s that he always returns.

Kaizer Chiefs didn’t share details of the latest problem, but supporters will be relieved to know it wasn’t close to the frightening setbacks he’s overcome in past years. In 2022, he suffered facial and nasal fractures after a collision with Orlando Pirates teammate Richard Ofori. In 2023, a PCL knee ligament tear during Bafana Bafana duty required surgery and months of rehab.

MOVING TO AMAKHOSI

On 7 June, he was released by Orlando Pirates after the parties failed to agree on new terms, and 24 hours later, he put pen to paper on a contract with Amakhosi.

Amakhosi had signed a left-back who had been doing this for nearly a decade.

His numbers said it all:

  • Chippa United: 60 appearances, one goal and seven assists
  • Orlando Pirates: 173 appearances, two goals and eight assists
  • CAF experience: 19 CAF Confederation Cup games, 13 Champions League matches.

Sunday’s game against Al Masry kicks off at 18:00.
