Chiefs Move 3rd After Beating Arrows

Posted on January 20, 2026

Kaizer Chiefs beat Lamontville Golden Arrows 1-0 to move to third place, just two points behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

On the return of the Betway Premiership at the FNB Stadium, Amakhosi started with familiar starting line-up. Chiefs dominated the first 15 minutes not allowing Arrows to come out of their own half.

But overall it was a dull first 30 minutes, where both sides only creates half chances with nothing much to talk about.

Amakhosi broke the deadlock in the 40th minute after a free-kick from Pule Mmodi found Glody Lilepo but Thakasani Mbanjwa pushed the ball into Aden McCarthy’s path who made no mistake to make it 1-0.

Chiefs went into the break leading 1-0, leaving Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi a lot do in the dressing room.

Amakhosi created a half chance in the 59th minute, when Mduduzi Shabalala found Flavio Silva in the box but he shot was blocked by Oumar Comara, while Arrows went out on a counter attack, and a cross from Philani Khumalo found Siyanda Mthanti his shot went over the crossbar.

Arrows came close to leveling in the 70th minute when Siyanda Ndlovu beat three Chiefs players but was denied by the post, with Brandon Petersen well beaten.

In the 74th minute Chiefs made three changes and they were all attacking players which meant they not taking the foot off the paddle – Mfundo Vilakazi immediately showed glimpses of what he is capable.

But when the final whistle from the referee came, Amakhosi moved to the third place just two points behind league leaders Sundowns and one behind second-placed Orlando Pirates.

They now shift focus to their CAFCC encounters against ZESCO United.
