Relebohile Mofokeng can win the league for Orlando Pirates

Kaizer Chiefs legend Tsepo Masilela believes rising star Relebohile Mofokeng has what it takes to shine at this year’s FIFA World Cup.

The 21-year-old attacker has been in sensational form, winning the Betway Premiership Player of the Month award in both January and February.

With seven league goals and five assists to his name, “President ya ma 2000” is once again emerging as a strong contender for the Player of the Season accolade.

Masilela believes the talented youngster could make a significant impact for Bafana Bafana on the global stage.

Rele Mofokeng to have a good World Cup, says Masilela

“I know he’s seen as the poster boy, but going into the World Cup, things will be different. I don’t think we’ll play the same way we did against Panama,” said Masilela on Soccer Beat.

“I think the opening game will be tough, but we’ll have more space behind the defence compared to today. Panama played a low block, and there was no space.”

The former Bafana Bafana defender added that South Africa’s likely attacking approach could suit Mofokeng’s style of play at the World Cup.

“I think his chances of shining at the World Cup are high because we’re going to attack more. We’re not really the favourites in the group, so we have to be realistic,” he continued.

“We believe in Bafana, but the World Cup is a completely different ball game compared to the friendly we played.”

While head coach Hugo Broos is yet to name his final squad for the tournament in the USA, Mexico and Canada, several players have already made a strong case for selection.

Mofokeng is undoubtedly among those expected to be on the plane to the World Cup. Whether he starts or comes from the bench remains to be seen.

Should Rele start at the tournament?
