Kaizer Chiefs returned to winning ways in the DStv Diski Challenge after narrowly beating Durban City 2-1 at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday morning.
Amakhosi ended their four-match winless run moving to fifth on the DDC standings with 32 points though they are unable to challenge for the defence of their title with just nine games to go.
Vela Khumalo’s charges had been struggling to find their rhythm this campaign since winning the title with a record points last season.
They had come from two consecutive draws which was a 0-0 stalemate with Sekhukhune United and a 2-2 draw with Richards Bay.
But before those two matches, they lost 1-0 to AmaZulu in a game that was decided by the opposition goalkeeper who kept them out of the game on numerous times.
Their last win came on 8 February when they hammered Orbit College 4-1.
On Sunday, Chiefs stepped up their performance with Steven ‘Stevie-G’ Mendes opening the scoring for Amakhosi just 11 minutes in.
Aphelele Zondi pulled City level in the 17th minute before Donay Jansen scored the winner for Chiefs in the 86th minute.
They now switch their attention to Golden Arrows on Saturday, 14 March.
All Sunday Results:
Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 Durban City
Polokwane City 0-2 Marumo Gallants
Royal AM 3-1 Orbit College
