Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef has applauded the recent form of Sibongiseni Mthethwa in the heart of their midfield.
The 31-year-old was subject to intense criticism and abuse in the early stages of the campaign but has managed to stem the tide and produced several consistent displays over the past couple of weeks.
Having been lured from Stellenbosch in 2023 as a signing that majority of the fanbase demanded, it’s not been a smooth journey for the defensive midfielder at Amakhosi – for the player who arrived as senior national team member.

“Ox has a big mindset, always working [hard] and serious in training, we have tried to analyse with him, every training, every game, individual meetings, to explain to him what he needed to correct,” Ben Youssef said about his recent form.
“To become better in his performances, he’s worked a lot and he’s helping us, giving us defensive stability, also he’s the only player to play every game 90 minutes, so he’s one of the key players for us now.”
Mthethwa has featured in every game of Chiefs’ campaign in the 2025/26 season thus far and will be aiming to continue his recent vein of form when they travel to the Western Cape this weekend to face his former club, Stellies.
